Women’s History Month – Women in Senior Care Series
During Women’s History Month, we are profiling several female leaders at Home Matters. They hold many different positions. They come from many different walks of life. But they all have a passion for serving our senior population.
Meet Asha Scher
Asha is Home Matters Caregiving’s newest franchisee; she will be opening her agency in May of this year. Asha shared that two events led her to opening her own business, and specifically opening a home care business. The first was a friend passing away at a young age. Asha realized more time isn’t guaranteed and began to think about everything she planned to do in retirement, giving back to the community and finding a way to help others. She realized that she wanted to do something to give back now. The next event was her parents coming to visit for an extended period of time. She saw firsthand their struggles with aging and adapting to the changing world around them. Asha saw that her parents needed more help but they were too proud to ask and likely unsure of what to ask for.
This led Asha to look into the home care business where she found a growing industry. She read about the baby boomer generation, and the often-repeated statistic that 10,000 people turn 65 every day. Asha then began to look into different home care franchise opportunities. She found Home Matters Caregiving, and felt that our company’s key differentiators of better client outcomes guided by our use of technology, nurse guided care, and a caregiver centered culture fit with her values. She also admired the servant leadership demonstrated by the Home Matters team.
Asha’s advice to aspiring female entrepreneurs and leaders is, “It’s only a glass ceiling, anyone can shatter it.” She believes women have a unique ability to uplift and support one another. Asha looks forward to launching her business and having a culture where women lift each other up, and fostering a community that encourages growth and empowerment.
