Home Matters Caregiving was a proud sponsor of the Memories in the Making Art Auction and Gala held June 10th in downtown Portland. Our team looks forward to this event all year, not only for the memories we make together at the event, but as an opportunity to support a program that is near to our hearts. This year the event raised more than $228,000.
In addition to supporting this event through sponsorship, we have also hosted a weekly Memories in the Making program in our training center. Christina says this is her favorite part of the week, and she is in the process of restarting our program after a long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Memories in the Making is an art program that teaches people with early onset dementia how creating art can be a new avenue of expression as their ability to communicate verbally wanes. Creating art encourages storytelling and human interaction resulting in the artist coming to life with their new found ability to express a memory. We love this program because it focuses on what people can do, not what they can’t, and gives the participants a chance to find joy in the moment.
