We are honored to feature Father Tim Murphy as our Client Spotlight this month—a man whose lifetime of service, joy, and faith has left a profound mark on the Portland community.
Father Tim was born and raised in Northeast Portland, where he has lived his entire life. Just a mile from Central Catholic High School, his roots run deep in the community. After attending school there as a boy, he went on to serve the Central Catholic community for over 50 years—a remarkable legacy of dedication and love.
When asked about his favorite childhood memory, Father Tim fondly reflects on being raised in a good family, with strong values and a nurturing neighborhood. That sense of community and connection continues to shape his life and work to this day.
One piece of wisdom he hopes to pass on to younger generations is simple but powerful:
“Stop, look, and listen!”
This timeless advice speaks to the mindfulness and intention with which Father Tim approaches life—a reminder to pause, pay attention, and be fully present in the moment.
Father Tim shared that what he appreciates most about working with Home Matters Caregiving is our accommodating nature, positive attitudes, and the practical support we provide to his daily life. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to care for someone who has given so much to others.
In the words of the University of Portland:
“It is also probably an inarguable fact that Tim Murphy has, in his nearly fifty years as a cheerful, witty, generous priest, baptized more children, celebrated the marriage of more couples, and celebrated the lives of more Catholics who have gone home to the Light than any other priest in Portland—a remarkable thing to say, but indicative of Tim’s conviction that a priest is a servant of the faithful, and available for any and all holy moments.”
When Father Tim was inducted into Central Catholic High School’s Hall of Fame in 2010, his plaque read simply:
“Beloved Priest, Friend to All, and Spiritual Leader.”
The University of Portland echoed these sentiments when they awarded him the Christus Magister Medal—the university’s highest honor—for the grace, generosity, and prayer that have defined his life and work.
We are deeply privileged to support Father Tim in this season of life. Thank you, Father, for your decades of service, your unwavering faith, and the light you continue to share with all who know you.
