Client Spotlight – Ron Tipper

Ron Tipper was born in July of 1942 in Sacramento CA.  He came to Oregon to attend college at Oregon State University (Go Beavs!).  While at Oregon State, Ron had the good fortune to sit at the same table as a lovely young lady named Maryellen.  Maryellen asked Ron to help her with her microscope and the rest is history.  Ron and Maryellen were married 1 week after they graduated from OSU, and they are still going strong 58 years later.  Ron attended college on an ROTC scholarship, and later the Navy paid for Ron to get his PhD in Oceanography. Not to be outdone Maryellen later got her graduate degree in library science. Ron and Maryellen lived in Maryland, Mississippi and Virginia while Ron was in the Navy.  He had many interesting assignments, including a trip to the South Pole!  Ron worked in oceanography research during his time in the Navy.  After he retired as Captain, he continued his work in research as a civilian. Ron and Maryellen have two children and two grandchildren.  After their move to Oregon and his retirement Ron volunteered for OMSI for 15 years.  Ron loves listening to music and visiting with friends and caregivers.  His advice to the younger generation is “if you get the opportunity to study, don’t blow it. You will never regret an education.  And do your homework!”

Ron’s favorite part of working with Home Matters Caregiving is the relationships he has developed with his caregivers.  He loves learning about their life stories and sharing his with them.   All of us at Home Matters feel the same way Ron.  We love working with you and are honored to be part of your story.
