Gerald Grover was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 22,1930. His family soon moved to Southern California before eventually settling down in Ashland, Oregon where Jerry graduated from high school. After joining the Air Force in the early 1950’s, he was assigned to a base in England where he met the lady who was to become his wife for over 65 years. Jerry served for about twenty years before deciding to retire and make the Portland area his home for the rest of his life. Jerry eventually earned his Master’s degree which he used to become a teacher and later an elementary school principal. He loved this job because he could interact with young kids every day and join them in all kinds of daily activities like recess, field trips even dressing up for Halloween every year.
Jerry and his wife, Sonia, raised three children which led to a multitude of grandchildren who blessed his life with many wonderful moments.
Home Matters was honored to provide care for Jerry at the end of his life. Every caregiver who worked with him shared how much they enjoyed caring for him. Jerry was truly interested in other people, and he continued to make an impact on others to the end of his time on earth. On numerous occasions, Jerry expressed how much he liked his caregiver team of Jessica, Hohoua, Olayemi, and Funmi. Together, they made his final weeks of life the best it could be.
